- Optimal volume: 4.5 mL Full collection tube
- Minimum volume 2 mL
- One tube is sufficient when ordered with Measles
(Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory/reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum volume may require a second collection)

- Specimens received where the proper collection protocols were not followed

Testing Information
Relevant clinical history
- Include patient's symptoms, date of onset of symptoms and recent vaccination history on the requisition
Clinical interpretation
- IgM should only be requested on symptomatic patients.
- A negative IgM result on an acute serum specimen should be followed-up with a second serum 5 - 10 days later
- All serological results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical symptoms, and where applicable, vaccination history.
