Collection procedure
- Sample contents in the syringe be mixed to avoid clotting
- Send syringe on ice
Required volume
- Optimal volume: 1.0 mL
- Minimum volume: 0.5 mL
(Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory/reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum volume may require a second collection.)
Transport and stability
- Delayed analysis increases the risk that test results no longer represent patient status
Rejection criteria
- Specimens received where the proper collection protocols were not followed
