Test ordering requirements
Forms required
Specimen Information

- Minimum volume: 1.0 mL
(Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory/reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum volume may require a second collection.)
Transport and stability
- After separation from cells, specimen is stable at room temperature for 14 days and frozen for 2 months

Additional comments
- Retinol binding protein (RBP) is a carrier protein that binds or transports retinol (vitamin A). Serum RBP concentration may be useful as an indicator of malnutrition, acute and chronic hepatic disease, advanced chronic renal insufficiency, and cystic fibrosis. Assess nephritic syndrome and protein – losing enteropathy.
Clearance required
- Ordering physician must have test cleared by the biochemist on call via RUH switchboard prior to collection
