Overview
Description
- Trichomonas vaginalis is a protozoan responsible for trichomoniasis, one of the most prevalent and underdiagnosed sexually-transmitted infections in North America. Pregnant women with trichomoniasis may be at increased risk of premature delivery.
Ordering Recommendations
- Female patient is symptomatic with symptoms of vaginitis, urethritis or cervicitis. Discharge is often foul-smelling, patients may experience painful intercourse, urinary tract infection symptoms and pain during urination, vaginal itching or pelvic pain.
- Male patients are often asymptomatic or may have slight penile discharge.
- Patient has negative test results for Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae.

Cervix/Endocervix/Male Urethral Swab
- Use the Aptima® Unisex Swab Specimen Collection Kit (White Label).
Urine
- Use the Aptima® Urine collection kit for Male and Female Urine specimens

- Specimens in Aptima® transport tubes can be stored and shipped between 2 - 30°C
