Description
Ordering recommendation
- Specimen collection timing is critical. Sample preferably should be taken between 15 minutes to 3 hours after the suspected anaphylactic event.
- Tryptase may be not elevated in patients with acute mast cell activation if specimens obtained greater than 12 hours after an anaphylactic episode.

- Preferred collection container: Gold (gel) 5.0 mL
- Alternative collection container: Red (no additive) 6.0mL
Required volume
- Optimal volume: 4.0 mL full collection tube
- Minimum volume: 1 mL serum
(Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory/reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum volume may require a second collection.)
