Specimen types accepted
- Serum
Specimen collection container
- Preferred collection container: Gold (gel) 5.0mL
- Alternative collection container: Red (no additive) 6.0mL
Collection procedure
- Specimen must be centrifuged and serum aliquoted within 60 minutes and frozen within 24 hours
Required volume
- Optimal volume: 4.5 mL Full collection tube
- Minimum volume: 1.0 mL serum in two aliquots
(Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory/reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum volume may require a second collection.)
Transport and stability
- Freeze serum within 24 hours
- Sent to referral lab frozen
Rejection criteria
- Received on clot more than 1 hour after collection
- Serum received not frozen more than 24 hours after collection

Testing Information
Relevant clinical history
- Rheumatoid factor may interfere with analysis, indicate if patient is positive for rheumatoid factor
