Specimen Information
Specimen types accepted
- Whole Blood
Specimen collection container
- Preferred collection container: Lavender top (EDTA) 4 mL
- Alternative collection container: None
Required volume
- Optimal volume: 2- 4 mL lavender top tubes
- Minimum volume: 1 mL
(Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory/reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum volume may require a second collection.)
Transport and stability
- Stable for 5 days at 4 - 25˚c
Rejection criteria
- Unlabeled, illegibly-labelled, mislabeled, or inadequately labelled specimens
- Original labeling must be present and visible
- Incomplete, inaccurate, or illegible information on the requisition
- Discrepancies between requisition patient information and specimen label information
- Collected by – required for all collections
- Date and time of collection

Clinical interpretation
- The presence of the HLA allele(s) associated with a disease alone is not diagnostic of disease. Other clinical factors must be considered to diagnose disease.
