Enteroviruses are a common cause of viral meningitis, especially in children less than 5 years

- Patients with suspect viral meningitis
Specimen Information

- CSF
Specimen collection container
- CSF collection kit, or
- Sterile, black screw-cap, round bottom tube
Collection procedure
- Collect CSF using a CSF collection kit, or collect into a sterile, black screw-cap, round bottom tube.
Required volume
- 1 mL optimal (0.5 mL minimum)
Transport and stability
- Freeze as soon as possible after collection and ship on dry ice.

- Qualitative NAAT testing via lab developed test (Positive, Indeterminate, or Negative)
