Description
- Patients are recommended to fast for 8 to16 hours.

Specimen types accepted
- Plasma
- Serum
Specimen collection container
- Preferred collection container: Light Green (Lithium Heparin gel)
- Alternative collection container: Gold (gel)
Collection procedure
- Collect fasting glucose
- If patient is an adult, administer 75 gram glucose drink. If patient is ≤ 12 years old, calculate the correct dosage of glucose drink to give.
- Patient should remain at collections site and rest during testing period. They should not eat or drink anything other than water during the testing period.
- Collect blood sample 2 hours after the patient has finished the drink
Required volume
- Optimal volume: 4.5 mL full collection tube
- Minimum volume: 1.0 mL
(Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory/reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum volume may require a second collection.)

- 3 days at 2 - 8°C

- Specimens received where the proper collection protocols were not followed
