Clinical interpretation
- A Reactive result for Hepatitis B Surface Ag indicates either:
- Acute or Chronic Hepatitis B infection
- Positive results should be correlated with patient history and other hepatitis markers
- Positivity for > 6 months indicates chronic HBV infection
- A negative result does not exclude the possibility of exposure to or infection with Hepatitis B virus
