Description

  • Testing is for Hospital Inpatients and Outpatients, Staff Exposures, and Donor/Transplant only.

  • Acute Care Requisition for Hospital Inpatients and Outpatients 
  • ‘Source’ or ‘Exposed’ Requisitions for Staff Exposures  
  • Transplant Requisition for Donor/Transplant

Specimen Information

Specimen types accepted

  • Serum
  • Plasma

Specimen collection container

Collection procedure

  • Biotin therapy: If biotin has been administered make notation on requisition when last dose was administered
  • Transport specimen immediately to the Chemistry laboratory

Required volume

  • Optimal volume: 4.5 mL full collection tube 
  • Minimum/pediatric volume: 0.5 mL whole blood

(Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory/reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum volume may require a second collection.)

Transport and stability

  • 4 weeks at 2 - 6°C

Other information

Reflex testing
  • Confirmatory testing will be sent to the Roy Romanow Provincial Laboratory (RRPL). Screen positive test results will be used to initiate prophylactic therapy in consultation with the Microbiologist On Call and Infectious Disease specialist.
