- Preferred collection container: Red (non-gel)
- Alternative collection container: Lavender (EDTA)
- Alternative collection container: Dark Green (lithium heparin, non-gel)
Collection procedure
- Remove serum/plasma from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of drawing. If serum/plasma is not separated from cell within 2 hours, the imipramine concentration may be falsely elevated due to drug release from RBCs.
- Gel tube is not acceptable because the drug can absorb on the gel and result in falsely decreased concentration
Required volume
- Optimal volume: 4.0 mL full collection tube
- Minimum volume: 2.0 mL serum or plasma

- Specimens received where the proper collection protocols were not followed
