Required volume
- Optimal volume: 8 mL
- Minimum volume: 4 mL
(Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory/reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum volume may require a second collection.
Transport and stability
- Unspun serum: 48 hours at room temperature
- Separated serum: 48 hours at 4°C or 2 years at -20°C or below
Rejection criteria
- Unlabeled, illegibly-labelled, mislabeled, or inadequately labelled specimens
- Original labeling must be present and visible
- Incomplete, inaccurate, or illegible information on the requisition
- Discrepancies between requisition patient information and specimen label information
- Collected by – required for all collections
