Inspiring organ donation through art
Saskatchewan has a large number of Indigenous people on the transplant waiting list for life-saving organs. It is easier to find donor matches within genetic populations, therefore a focus is being put on raising awareness of organ and tissue donation among the Indigenous population this year.
To help spark conversations around this important issue, the Saskatchewan Donation Program commissioned artist Kevin Wesaquate to create NEWO, a powerful piece designed to inspire and educate everyone about organ donation. His work will be on display at St. Paul’s Hospital. See the story behind the piece in this video.
The partnership between the Saskatchewan Donation Program and Wesaquate illustrates the SHA's CARES values (compassion, accountability, respect, equity and safety), as it upholds the principles of Truth and Reconciliation, and works to build trust, understanding, and access to organ donation in Saskatchewan.
