Pap-A-Palooza: Bridging the gap in primary care
On March 28, 2025, Warman Primary Health Clinic hosted Pap-A-palooza; an opportunity for anyone with a cervix to be screened for cervical cancer through a pap test.
“Our nurse practitioners (NPs) saw a gap in the community for patients who do not have a regular primary health-care provider,” said Andrea, Primary Health-care Manager, Saskatoon, North Network, for the SHA. “Screening every three years for cervical cancer is crucial for prevention and early detection. Our staff wanted to help bridge the gap by providing this service for those individuals.”
The event saw 40 patients come to the clinic in Warman for a screening and organizers received overwhelmingly positive feedback about it. Many patients were grateful for an opportunity to not only receive the test, but to see a female provider.
“Our team is very community-focused and proud to provide patient-centred care based on their needs,” said Andrea. “The work they do really exemplifies the SHA’s CARES values (compassion, accountability, respect, equity, and safety), as primary care is the first line of defence when it comes to safety and prevention.”
The clinic looks forward to hosting another Pap-A-palooza event in the near future.
