Saskatchewan wildfires spark urgent air rescue
On May 28, 2025, 11 Saskatchewan residents were evacuated from Flin Flon Hospital, due to approaching wildfires and the directive to evacuate the community of 5,000 people.
“Faced with extreme and rapidly changing circumstances, our team acted quickly to ensure patients were safely transported by Saskatchewan Air Ambulance and provided with exceptional care,” said Jonathan Melville, Clinical Operations Manager, for SAA. “We are so grateful to everyone who was involved in supporting this tremendous effort, including our SHA critical care flight nurses and paramedics, SHA EMS and our external partners.”
Saskatchewan Air Ambulance planes and crews provide immediate in-flight critical care transportation in both emergent and non-emergent situations to patients throughout Saskatchewan and Western Canada — an invaluable service when patient evacuations are necessary.
This commitment and dedication to patient safety through the use of this critical service, truly embodies the SHA CARES values of compassion, accountability, respect, equity and safety.
