Weyburn General Hospital reaches 75 per cent completion
The Government of Saskatchewan recently announced that construction on the new Weyburn General Hospital is progressing on schedule and has reached 75 per cent completion as of mid-May.
"This milestone marks meaningful progress on the new Weyburn General Hospital," said Derek Miller, Chief Operating Officer, Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA). "Patients will benefit from improved and expanded access to a wider range of health services under one roof. This will empower our teams to provide safe, high-quality care to residents of Weyburn and the surrounding area where and when they need it.”
The new hospital in Weyburn will be owned and operated by the SHA and is an example of living the SHA’s CARES values of compassion, accountability, respect, equity and safety.
When completed, the new hospital will offer improved and expanded access to health services for residents in the area. This includes 25 acute care beds, 10 inpatient mental health beds, emergency medical services, ambulatory care and allied health. It will also feature a heliport to facilitate safer and more efficient patient transport, along with additional space for social work and the Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation office. Housing all of these services in the same location will make it more convenient for patients to receive the care they need, closer to home.
The Government of Saskatchewan is investing more than $120 million in the development of the facility. The SHA thanks the community, the Weyburn and District Hospital Foundation and their generous donors for raising funds for additional capital costs and to purchase furniture, fixtures and equipment for the new hospital.
