Customized care at in-patient psychiatric unit at Yorkton Regional Health Centre embodies SHA values
The in-patient psychiatric unit at Yorkton Regional Health Centre is dedicated to making a positive impact on patients and ensuring they receive the highest quality of care.
The unit primarily provides crisis-intervention services and treatment to patients requiring support for mental health and addictions. The goal is to teach patients coping mechanisms that will best support long-term recovery.
“There is a lot of stigma about asking for help when it comes to mental health,” said Andrea Johnston, RPN and Clinical Care Coordinator, Inpatient Services at Yorkton Regional Health Centre. “What patients can expect when they come to us, is a warm, welcoming environment that is judgment-free.”
The dedicated care team always puts in extra effort to develop relationships with patients to ensure their care is customized in a way that best supports them and their families.
The SHA’s CARES values (compassion, accountability, respect, equity and safety) are the driving force behind the care provided on the unit.
“Compassion, respect, equity, and safety are so important in our work,” said Johnston. “Our patients have diverse backgrounds. Ensuring that patients receive equitable care, and feel safe and respected, is key to providing them with the support they need.”
