SHA Vice President of First Nations and Métis Health: Living our values
The new Vice President of First Nations and Métis Health for the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) views her role as a significant milestone in the SHA’s journey towards reconciliation.

“We’re on the path in the right direction in creating culturally-safe places and culturally-safe care for all patients of Saskatchewan,” Ahenakew said, acknowledging the systemic barriers Indigenous people face in accessing health care, and the need for high quality care.
Recognizing the importance of reconciliation, equity and respecting Indigenous knowledge, culture and elders’ advice is an example of living the SHA’s CARES values (compassion, accountability, respect, equity and safety). Ahenakew says she believes there is a deep commitment within the organization.
