Finding compassion in the face of wildfires
Throughout this summer’s wildfire season, teams from across the Saskatchewan Health Authority have worked with the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency and community partners to safely evacuate patients and residents from SHA facilities in La Ronge, La Loche, and Ile-a la-Crosse, along with supporting the evacuation of Saskatchewan patients from the Flin Flon Hospital.
Health-care teams, physicians, and first responders have shown incredible dedication and compassion in supporting communities during challenging wildfire conditions. One example of this dedication and compassion occurred On May 28, Saskatchewan Air Ambulance (SAA) evacuated 11 Saskatchewan residents from Flin Flon Hospital, following an evacuation order prompted by nearby wildfires.
Faced with extreme circumstances, the SAA team delivered care with compassion and unwavering commitment to patient safety—living examples of our CARES values in action.
“At SAA, I feel we bring many of the SHA’s CARES values to the patients we serve,” said Lisa Stewart, Critical Care flight Nurse for SAA.
“Compassion is always number one,” said Bryan Lester, Critical Care flight Nurse for SAA. “We realize that when we are being called, it’s that patient’s worst day. Without compassion, it’s not effective care. It’s so encouraging to see how each of our staff is so compassionate with our patients.”
