Payslip clarifications: Deductions
Pay slips will look different now that pay is processed in AIMS, and the classification of deductions made will not be what employees are used to. Common questions are:
- What do “voluntary deductions” mean on my payslip? These deductions happen after tax, and include repaying amounts owed, garnishments, and initiation dues, among others. They were listed as “other deductions” on legacy pay slips or may not have been shown at all.
- What are pre-tax deductions? Pre-tax deductions are expenses deducted from an employee's gross income before calculating their taxable income. These deductions help reduce an individual's overall tax liability and increase their take-home pay. This includes pension contributions, union dues, Canada Pension Plan and Employment Insurance deductions.
- What are taxable benefits? Taxable benefits refer to non-cash or indirect compensation employees receive from their employers. These benefits are taxable and must be reported on an employee's income tax return. The value of these benefits is added to the employee's taxable income, which may result in additional tax liability. These include items like Group Life Insurance Coverage, Housing Allowances, and an employer-paid portion of Sunlife Financial Registered Retirement Savings Plan in this section of the payslip.
- Canada Pension Plan deductions: Canada Pension Plan deductions and Year to Date amounts will not be displayed on pay slips once an employee has reached their Canada Pension Plan contribution limit. To review past deductions, check previous payslips in AIMS or legacy systems.
Access to provincial seniority lists
Access to the provincial seniority lists is not affected by implementation of AIMS. The lists are available to Saskatchewan Health Authority employees 24 hours a day, seven days a week by logging into MyConnection. Provincial seniority lists were posted fall/winter 2022, and are regularly updated according to Collective Bargaining Agreements. All affiliated employers who access SHA-payroll benefits can view by logging into to MyConnection and by typing the following in the search bar: KB0013771 or “seniority lists.” Log a case in MyConnection for assistance. Health partners and affiliated employers who do not access SHA-payroll benefits should follow existing processes for accessing provincial seniority lists within their organizations.
