Caring for the Carer
The COVID-19 pandemic has drastically changed workplace conditions which may contribute to an increased risk of healthcare providers experiencing compassion fatigue and burnout. We know that recognizing and acknowledging any concerns related to mental health is hard. It takes courage and strength to reach out for help. If you’re going through a tough time, it can be really helpful just to talk about it. The following resources are available to support you.

Mental Health Support
- The Mental Health Support Line (MHSL) – staffed Monday to Friday (not including stats) from 0800-1630hrs at 1-833-233-3314. Calls outside those hours will go to our voicemail service, and daytime clinicians will follow-up next working day. Calling the MHSL offers any individual employed by the SHA the ability to quickly and simply connect with a trained mental health professional for support, resources, and a brief intervention. This is one option of many which staff can use to meet their needs during the pandemic.
- Online Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (Online-CBT) – Provincially funded service for Saskatchewan residents who are experiencing mental health difficulties, including depression and anxiety. Trained therapists support participants as they complete five online modules over an eight week period. This service is led by the Online Therapy Unit at the University of Regina, and is delivered for free for Saskatchewan residents in partnership with the Saskatchewan Health Authority. This resource is available to anyone and everyone, SHA employee or not.
- LifeWorks (formerly Morneau Shepell), SHA’s confidential Employee Assistance Program services, are accessible as always 24/7/365 by calling 1-844-336-3136 or visiting www.workhealthlife.com.
- LifeWorks has also opened up a Crisis Support Line for anyone in the community in need of emotional support. The Crisis Support Line is open 24/7 and can be reached at 1-844-751-2133. By calling, individuals will receive professional emotional support and/or referral to community resources. This resource is available to anyone and everyone, SHA employee or not.
