Improving health care access in Melville
The Primary Health-care team in Melville is improving health services and strengthening connections between physicians, staff, and patients.
Feedback from the community and health-care providers highlighted the need to co-locate all health services within Melville. While complete co-location remains a long-term goal, the team has been able to merge clinics to bring together physicians, nurse practitioners, clinic assistants, a dietitian, and other providers in one location.
With support from various teams across the SHA, providers have now moved into the larger, shared clinic. Physicians and nurse practitioners have embraced the shared office spaces, enhancing their collaboration and information sharing.
“Having the health-care services under one roof provides patients same-day access to care, expands primary health services, and supports patients with non-urgent needs, reducing emergency room visits,” said Lorie Mokelki, Director of Primary Health Care for Southeast Saskatchewan.
Thanks to these efforts, access to health care in Melville and Ituna has improved, and a unified clinic electronic medical record is ensuring continuity of care for patients.
