SharePoint versus Intranet page
SharePoint sites are becoming more common as a tool for file sharing and team collaboration. But when is it appropriate or not to use a SharePoint site?
If you have a defined audience where permissions can be controlled easily, SharePoint is a great option. (Connect with the eHealth Service Desk to requests a new SharePoint sites.) If the information you want to share is for a large audience – all health providers, for example - SharePoint is not a recommended tool.
SharePoint sites are independent websites so the information within them cannot be found using the SHA’s intranet search tool. Plus, depending on your audience, some Affiliates or external partners may not be able to access SharePoint sites. Containing information within a SharePoint site can make it especially difficult for health providers, who may need to pull up info quickly, to navigate health system information, and doesn’t align with user feedback and preferences.
The SHA’s Online Strategy and Performance team advocates for an online experience that is seamless, efficient, and makes the most of the tools we have available.
