- Optimal volume: 2.7mL
- Collection tube must be filled until the vacuum on the tube is completely exhausted to maintain an anticoagulant : blood ratio of 1:10
- Minimum volume: 1.0 mL platelet poor citrated plasma

- 30 days frozen as platelet poor plasma at less than -20 degrees (regular freezer)
- 2 years frozen as platelet poor plasma at less than -70 degrees

- Hemolysis
- Clotted specimen
- Inappropriately filled tubes
- Plasma specimen that has thawed and been refrozen
- Plasma specimen that has thawed for more than 2 hours
