Collection procedure

Deliver to Hematology promptly after collection to be incubated at 37ºC as soon as possible
Required volume

Optimal volume: 4.0 mL
- Minimum volume:
- 1.0 mL K2 EDTA (RGH-Pasqua/Saskatoon)
- 0.2 mls K2 EDTA in a Microtainer (RGH/Pasqua)
- Pediatric volume: 1.0 mL (Saskatoon)
(Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory/reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum volume may require a second collection.)
Transport and stability

Specimen should optimally be fresh (within 1 hour of collection) for procedure
- Specimen cannot be more than 24 hours old
