Health Emergency Management
Health Emergency Management (HEM) is a provincial team that provides guidance and emergency management support within the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA). The SHA is responsible for providing continuous health-care services to the residents of Saskatchewan at all times, including before, during and after an emergency event or disaster.
The SHA is challenged to ensure the 4 pillars of emergency management - mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery - are implemented at all sites and in all departments. The HEM team is dedicated to supporting this work by:
- Developing processes to assist staff with mitigating danger to individuals and damage to property in the event of an emergency situation.
- Developing emergency colour code response plan templates, policies and procedures that are supported provincially.
- Developing tools and processes to ensure staff receive education regarding response plans for their duties.
- Working with partnering agencies, governments and other internal and external stakeholders to align disaster and emergency response planning.
- Providing province-wide leadership, strategic direction and accountability in emergency management.
