SHA Peer Support System
Peer Support and Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) provides a safe place for discussion about the experience guided by confidentiality and trust.
Peer Support is the process of helping to support colleagues in the aftermath of a crisis situation.
CISM is the content of work Peer Support Teams do to support health-care workers and physicians experiencing critical incidents - highly distressing events - or working in highly stressful environments that may leave them cognitively, emotionally and psychologically affected by those experiences.
The SHA Peer Support - CISM systems guides the individual or group to regain stability after a crisis, develop a greater sense of wellbeing and in turn manifest hope and positive expectations (optimism) for the future - both key factors in recovery.
The SHA Peer Support - CISM systems works in partnership with mental health resources in support of the interventions and for consultation and referral.
