Overview
Description
- Must be approved by Clinical Biochemist on-call through RUH switchboard.
- This test should NOT be used for diagnosing vitamin D deficiency/insufficiency. However, for patients with renal disease or hypercalcemia, testing of 1,25 - dihydroxyvitamin D might be necessary to assess vitamin D status.

- Serum
Specimen collection container
- Preferred collection container: Gold (gel) 5 mL
- Alternative collection container: Red (no additive) 6 mL
Required volume
- Optimal Volume: Full 5.0 mL collection tube
- Minimum Volume: 2 mL serum
(Submitting the minimum volume makes it impossible to repeat the test or perform confirmatory/reflex testing. In some situations, a minimum volume may require a second collection.)
Transport and stability
- Must be frozen within 60 minutes of collection
